Denso has tested the latest of its automated driving capabilities on public roads for the first time. The tests, carried out in Japan, were focused on situations requiring single-lane driving, where the vehicle had to change lanes and a number of other driving manoeuvres. A vehicle-safety technology project team involving government officials from the Japanese prefecture of Aichi were responsible for ensuring that the tests were performed appropriately.
Prior to this, the Japanese supplier had only ever performed tests on autonomous vehicles on test tracks, but wanted to assess and solve problems that only present themselves when driving on public roads. Denso said: “We’ve been developing our advanced driving assistance technology in order to achieve safer and more reliable driving while the driver remains in control of the vehicle. “Development and commercialisation of this technology will help prevent traffic accidents and contribute to increasing safety of our automotive society.”
