0Lamborghini Countach Returns In 2021… And Already Sold Out
The iconic Lamborghini Countach returns on the 50th anniversary of its debut as a limited edition hybrid supercar.
We should have known that Lamborghini was up to something when they started celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Countach over and over and over again. It appears that they were just building up the hype for the unveiling of an all-new Countach – one that celebrates the original vehicle’s genre-defining looks, but does so on a much smaller scale.
The original Countach had a production run of nearly 2000 units. This new 2021 Lamborghini Countach is a much more exclusive affair, with just 112 units produced. Why 112 units? Because the original Countach had the internal project name ‘LP-112’. How’s that for a bit of far-reaching Italian logic.
What’s Powering The New Lamborghini Countach
The new car has the designation LPI 800-4, standing for Longitudinale Posteriore Hybrid with about 800 metric horsepower and four-wheel drive. The power comes from two sources, a naturally-aspirated V12 as well as supercapacitor, which uses technology developed on the Lamborghini Sián. This combination puts out 814PS to a permanent four-wheel drive transmission allowing for a 0-100km/h sprint in just 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 355km/h. By using a supercapacitor instead of a lithium-ion battery, the Countach is able to get three times the amount of e-power vs a battery of the same weight.
The entire chassis and every body panel is made of carbon fibre for the ultimate weight-saving solution. The only exposed carbon fibre can be found on the front splitter, around the front window, wing mirrors, engine bonnet cover air intakes, and rocker panel. It’s also seen on the interior. Despite having a complex hybrid system and a large V12 engine, four-wheel drive, and more, the car weighs under 1600kg.
Classic Lamborghini Countach Design Inspiration
Clearly, the biggest reason why this car bears the name Countach is because it draws its design inspiration from the original industry shaker. The same distinctive wedge silhouette and essential line running from front to rear exists here, as does the same angular design.
The Countach Quattrovalvole edition was said to be the main inspiration for this new car’s rectangular grille, headlights and hexagonal theme. The rear carries a distinctive inverted wedge shape with the ‘hexagonita’ design shaping the rear light clusters. Just like the original Countach, the LPI 800-4 has four exhaust tailpipes. They’re all mounted through a carbon fiber diffuser.
And to top it all off, the scissor doors make a return here, but then again they’re also there on every V12 Lamborghini model.
Buyers can choose from a range of heritage paint options in solid finish including Impact White, Giallo Countach and Verde Medio. Otherwise, more modern paint finishes are available.
Touch of Modernity
Inside, the 112 Lamborghini Countach owners can expect modern amenities, of course. This includes an 8.4″ centre touchscreen that’s unique to the LPI 800-4. It has loads of connectivity options including Apple CarPlay. It even has a ‘Stile’ button that explains the car’s design philosophy to the driver and passenger. The car also features a photocromatic sunroof which changes from solid to transparent at the touch of a button.
Lamborghini also had fun recreating the ‘telephone’ style rim design on the new Countach, but here they’re much more modern and larger at 20″ and 21″ in the front and rear. Carbon ceramic brake discs and Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres are fitted here.
