The Panamera Turbo S from Porsche manages to shock and entertain its driver with supercar performance from its twin-turbo 4.8-litre V8 engine. Add to the package competition derived big brakes, smart suspension systems and a launch control system and you get a 4-seater, 4-door super sedan that will rival many super cars costing much more on the road.
With launch control activated, the Porsche Panamera Turbo S will accelerate its way through to 100km/h from standstill in little more than 3.5 seconds. Of course this is not what the driver of a Panamera will do on a daily basis, but with this acceleration ability, the driver will be able to race ahead of an Aston Martin DBS and even a Lamborghini Gallardo from a traffic light standstill.
All that needs to be done is to switch the ‘Launch Control’ mode on, click the car into gear, rev up the engine with the brake pedal holding the car back and then at the given engine revolution release the brake pedal and shoot ahead with steering wheel control. The “Launch Control” start function guarantees the best possible acceleration when moving off by optimally co-ordinating the responses of the engine control system and the Porsche Doppelkupplung gearshift program. Thanks to the reworked gear shifting strategy, the Porsche Doppelkupplung changes between its seven gears even more rapidly.
Thanks to the Panamera’s relatively light weight, it also betters the 621bhp Bentley Continental Supersports with ease. The increased performance compared with the Panamera Turbo can be attributed to two main enhancements. Improved turbochargers with titanium-aluminium turbine wheels and modified engine control management. The use of the innovative titanium-aluminium alloy reduces the weight of the turbine and compressor wheel. This results in a lower moment of inertia, and thus improved and more responsive acceleration.
