The driver of the Perodua Myvi attempted to flee the scene of the accident but was caught by bystanders
What you’re seeing here is the aftermath of a horrible accident involving a Perodua Myvi, a van and a Proton Waja, which made its round on social media yesterday.
The accident, which occurred near Pangsapuri Enggang in Bandar Kinrara, Puchong, was caught on camera by a motorist who was travelling on the same stretch of road. The footage showed the Myvi being driven recklessly at high speed before slamming into the back of the van, causing the latter to flip on its side.
The sheer force of the impact sent the hatchback into a spin and as a result, it hit the Waja that was travelling next to the van at the time, which explains the damage on the back of the Perodua. Thankfully, the Myvi narrowly missed a motorcyclist who was close behind the van and the Waja.
However, the driver of the van suffered serious injuries and is currently being treated at the Serdang Hospital. Selangor Traffic Investigation and Enforcement (JSPT) chief Supt Azman Shari’at said the details of the victim have not been obtained from the hospital and the case is being investigated under section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Myvi has been arrested and taken to the Serdang police station to assist with investigations. The 26-year-old local man initially tried to escape the scene of the accident but was apprehended by members of the public. Urine tests showed that the driver tested negative for drugs.
As we have said countless times before, speeding and reckless driving only increase the risks on the road for everyone, and this incident has proved exactly that. Harsher punishments aside, what do you think could be done to deter drivers from committing such offence?
