Perodua DL 55 Launch Will Reduce Proton X50 Bookings

Perodua will be stockpiling the DL 55 right now for quick delivery.

The sales battle between Proton and Perodua has been a long one. Over the many years, they have been ‘quiet’ rivals and until the arrival of Geely and the X70 SUV, Perodua has been the rising star in sales numbers. Now, Proton wants a healthy slice of that success and so the X50 Crossover has been a very good contender.

This move has brought Perodua’s game up. Yes, in order to keep their market share, Perodua has worked with their partners, Daihatsu and Toyota to bring a true rival (not in all ways) to the market. Yes, there has been a delay in the arrival of parts due to the ongoing pandemic, but we now hear social media chatter that this all new compact crossover will be arriving later this February 2021 (just weeks away).

Just in time for the that rush of Hari Raya bookings and at the right time to take away the thousands of held up bookings that Proton is having with their very popular X50 Crossover.

To date, The X50 which was launched last last year, has a healthy 35,000 plus bookings with its asking price ranging from RM79,200 to RM103,300. Deliveries have been slow due to parts availability. With the launch of the DL 55 (Rocky)Crossover soon, that 35k plus bookings could easily be halved for a few reasons.

  1. Fast delivery of the DL 55 to customers
  2. The worrying economy
  3. The better price tag that the DL 55 will carry
  4. The strong media coverage that will come with the launch of the DL 55
  5. The long standing reliability record of Perodua vehicles
  6. Perodua’s promised after sales response which continues to be good
  7. Continued high resale values

This new Perodua is estimated to be priced from RM65,000 to RM75,000. This new Perodua will feature a compact body with a length of 3,995 millimeters and 1,695 millimeters wide whilst providing a class leading 369-liter luggage capacity. It will be equipped with 17-inch tires and protruding fenders, which will provide that crossover look that many ASEAN buyers want today.

Under the bonnet will be a new 1.0-liter turbo engine (which is the engine used by Daihatsu in Japan) with D-CVT which is co-developed by Toyota (which is used in the Toyota Raize) and Daihatsu that will provide the torque and driving ease of a 1.5-liter engine, as well as outstanding fuel efficiency.

Here are some features that will come with the all new Perodua crossover.
