02021 Toyota Innova Facelift Launched In Malaysia
The new Innova brings some improvements based on customer feedback.
UMW Toyota Motor has officially launched the new Toyota Innova after about a month of order taking. Three variants are now available at Toyota showrooms nationwide, all powered by the same, reliable 2-litre petrol motor and 6-speed Super ECT automatic.
The facelifted Innova retains the 2.0-litre 1TR-FE Dual VVT-i petrol engine that makes 139 PS at 5,600 rpm and 183 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed Super ECT automatic transmission.
The three variants available and their estimated prices are:
- Toyota Innova 2.0X – from RM129,677
- Toyota Innova 2.0G – from RM121,483
- Toyota Innova 2.0 E – from RM111,622
All prices shown are inclusive of the ongoing SST discount.
New Standard
Toyota has improved the amount of kit that comes available on all variants of the Innova with this iteration. As standard, Innova buyers can expect seven airbags on every single model. Vehicle Stability Control, traction control and typical braking aids also come standard. As a result, the Innova gets a maximum 5-Star ASEAN NCAP rating.
They have also upgraded all USB charging ports to fast charging and added an optional wireless charger at the front as well.
That being said, Innova 2.0E leaves customers with a manual air conditioning system, polyurethane steering wheel and shifter, a basic CD player audio system and fabric upholstery. It also lacks a push-to-start button and has a more basic instrument cluster.
You have the option of adding Rear-cross Traffic Alert and a Blind Spot Monitor on the standard model, but these are cost options here. They come included from the 2.0G spec and up.
Better Midrange
With the 2.0G, Toyota you get nice-to-haves like a leather steering and shift knob, silver and black trim pieces inside, 2nd row seat-back tables, top-mounted ambient lighting, and an ‘easy-closer’ tailgate. This model also adds an instrument cluster with Optitron lighting and a colour display.
The 16″ rims are redesigned and finished in two-tone on the 2.0G model. This models also adds a 9″ infotainment unit with Android Auto and Apple Carplay. A reverse camera is also present on this model. Toyota’s Vehicle Telematics System also comes to the Innova on the 2.0G model and up. This system allows the car to be tracked via GPS in the event of a theft.
Flagship Innova
The 2.0X, the top-spec Innova, is dressed up a little differently from the rest of the pack. Styling enhancements exclusive to this model include new wheel arch and body side mouldings with side skirts for a two-tone look that’s more rugged and aggressive. Parts of the exterior trim are also finished in ‘dark chrome’ instead of chrome + paint. Toyota calls this the ‘Enhancement Package’, and it’s not optional on other variants of the Innova.
This is the only variant of the Innova to get automatic LED projector headlights. It’s also the only variant to get LED taillights and LED daytime running lights.
It’s also worth noting that this version of the Innova is configured as a 7-seater with the 2nd row of seats getting 2 individual captain seats instead of a bench for 3. While this lowers seating capacity, it does make things a lot more comfortable for at least two passengers and improves legroom and at the rear. This is also the only variant that comes with combination leather upholstery and wood accents. The driver gets an 8-way power-adjustable seat here too.
There’s also a new rear door garnish on this variant. The Innova 2.0X has a specially designed roof spoiler, which is said to be more aerodynamic. This model also has its 17″ rims finished in Dark Mica Metallic instead of black. It’s also worth noting that this variant of the Innova has an exclusive body colour called Crimson Spark Red Metallic.
Other colour options for the new Innova include:
- Super White II
- Silver Metallic
- Medium Silver Metallic
- Phantom Brown Metallic
- Bronze Mica Metallic
- Attitude Black Mica
