02021 Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS Officially Revealed
The litre-class naked segment just got a little hotter with the arrival of the Speed Triple 1200 RS
Triumph Motorcycles is starting the new year with a bang with the launch of the Speed Triple 1200 RS, which has been purpose designed from the ground up to lock horns with the likes of Ducati Streetfighter V4, BMW S1000R and Aprilia Tuono V4 1100.
The cornerstone of the Speed Triple 1200 RS is an all-new 1,160cc triple engine capable of churning out 180 PS at 10,750 rpm and 125 Nm of torque at 9,000 rpm. Developed with insight from Triumph’s Moto2 race engine programme, the engine is more responsive and lighter by 7 kg compared to the previous Speed Triple powertrain.
The Speed Triple 1200 RS is also said to be the best sounding Speed Triple ever produced, thanks to a new free-breathing intake and exhaust system. Power is transferred to the rear wheel via a new, stacked six-speed transmission that promises smoother gear changes with optimised ratio progression.
Under the skin, there’s a new cast aluminium frame that is 17% lighter with weight distribution that is further forward and lower down. The frame is mated to a Öhlins NIX30 upside down forks at the front and Öhlins TTX36 twin tube monoshock at the rear. Wider handlebars, new footrest position and new seat profile improve the ergonomics and the riding position.
Stopping power is provided by the twin Brembo Stylema radial monobloc front calipers with 320 mm front discs and a single Brembo twin-piston rear caliper. Meanwhile, rolling stock comprises high-performance Metzeler Racetec RR tyres. Stickier Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SC2 tyres are available for your weekend track sessions.
The Speed Triple 1200 RS also benefits from a host of new technologies such as five-inch TFT instruments with Triumph Connectivity System fitted as standard, Shift Assist up-and-down quickshifter, full LED lighting and a keyless system. As for electronics, there’s Optimised Cornering ABS, cruise control, switchable Optimised Cornering Traction Control (with IMU) and five riding modes, namely Rain, Road, Sport, Track and Rider.
Set to arrive at Triumph dealers from the end of February, the Speed Triple 1200 RS will be priced at £15,100 (RM83,723).
