This ASX is not a new product for Malaysia. Already selling for a few years, the ASX has seen some excitement with urban buyers as an active lifestyle vehicle. However the past 2 years the segment has seen a lot of new active vehicles being introduced with competitive pricing and more aggressive marketing. This has reduced the appeal of the fully imported ASX that does not enjoy a pricing advantage. Seeing this, Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia made the decision to re-introduce the ASX with a facelift and as a local assembled vehicle to make its selling price more attractive. This has brought its selling price down and at the same time refreshed the image and features of this crossover.
ASX stands for ‘Active Smart Crossover’, which pits it directly at the Subaru XV and Mazda CX5, both with a much higher selling price in the same segment. The ASX sits on a Lancer platform which gives it a car footprint with SUV-style seating. With its easy entry and SUV driving position, the ASX makes a strong case for retired people, ladies with a height disadvantage and drivers with bad backs.
Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia is now selling the local assembled ASX from RM114,743.50 for the 2WD variant, while the 4WD is priced at RM128,879.50, both on the road without insurance. Available in four colours, Black Mica, Titanium Grey, Cool Silver and Solid White, the ASX comes with a five-year unlimited mileage warranty. Two variants are available, a 2WD and 4WD, both use a smooth INVECS-III CVT with Sports Mode.
