Ultraviolette F77 Is Another Indian Electric Motorcycle

Twist the throttle and you’ll have 450 Nm of torque between your crotch

Compared to their four-wheeled counterparts, electric motorcycles are still a niche market but the growing number of startups seen over the last few years indicates that it may not remain so for long.

One of the startups ready to compete in the fairly new electric motorcycle segment is India’s Ultraviolette. Many including us have never heard of this company but the Bengaluru-based EV outfit is determined to change that with its sole offering, the F77.

Developed in collaboration with motorcycle giant TVS, the F77 looks very much like the KTM 1290 Super Duke hyper-naked bike, except that it has an aggressive looking body panel covering its guts. Front suspension shrouds and angled tail make the bike appear somewhat sporty. There are three variants to choose from – Airstrike, Shadow and Laser – each with a distinctive colour scheme.

In terms of dimension, the bike has a 1,340-mm wheelbase while the seat height is set at 800 mm, which puts it nicely in the 250 cc category. The claimed kerb weight of 158 kg is impressive to say the least, considering it’s a battery-powered electric motorcycle.

With that out of the way, let’s look into the technical specifications of the F77. According to Ultraviolette, this bike is equipped with a single electric motor that is capable of generating 33.5 hp at 2,250 rpm and 450 Nm of maximum torque. We’re guessing the full amount of twisting force can only be accessed in the interestingly named Insane mode. Otherwise, the motor only puts out 90 Nm in Eco and Sport modes.

Performance-wise, the F77 sprints from 0 to 60 km/h in 2.9 seconds and 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds, with a top speed of 147 km/h. Three modular 4.2-kWh lithium-ion battery packs grant an operating range of 130 km to 150 km. The batteries take approximately 5 hours to fully charge via a standard charger or just 90 minutes using a fast charger.

Under the skin, there’s a steel frame with aluminium bulkhead, paired with inverted front forks and a preload adjustable rear shock absorber. The F77 rides on 17-inch aluminium wheels with a 110/70-section tyre at the front and a 150/60-section tyre at the back. Braking is done with drilled discs measuring 320 mm at the front and 230 mm discs at the rear. Dual-channel ABS is standard.

Elsewhere, the F77 is equipped with a 9-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), shock and impact sensors and automatic headlight, to name a few. The cockpit features a digital display with LTE connectivity, Android and iOS compatibility and GPS.

Pricing is set at RS 3.25 lakh in India or RM17,972 based on the current exchange rate. It is unknown whether Ultraviolette has any plans to offer the F77 in other markets but we think that is very unlikely to happen.
