Well isn’t this an exciting week to be a Peugeot fan in Malaysia. Just a few days ago, we got confirmation that Bermaz Auto would be taking over the Peugeot franchise from Nasim. And today we got sent these spyshots of a mildly camoflaged Peugeot Landtrek pick-up truck from our reader Vinesh N. The Landtrek was announced just in February of this year. However at the time of announcement, we theorised that it would not be made available in Malaysia, given it was targetted at sub-Saharan African and Latin American markets.
The spyshots we were sent show the pick up truck in green in a left-hand drive configuration. The vehicle has been spotted in Malaysia before, so it’s likely plans for this pick-up’s arrival have been in place for some time. The trade plates indicate that it’s a Kedah registered car, perhaps there is some link to Naza Automotive Manufacturing, where Peugeots are assembled for the region. Peugeot has a Selangor-based regional testing centre, but cross-border use of trade plates is not something you see often. Here’s a list of accessories and powertrain options planned for the Landtrek.
Accessories that Peugeot are offering on the Landtrek:
- 10″ HD screen
- USB, Bluetooth
- Automatic dual zone air conditioning
- Android Auto/Apple Carplay
- 10GB hard drive
- aluminium wheels
- running boards
- thermoformed body protection
- hard top glass
- chrome roll bar
- alarm
- protective mats
- LED truck bed Illumination via 12V socket
- Peugeot signature grille, LED lighting and design language
- modular rear seat bench on double cab model
- 7 handles in passenger compartment
- 6 airbags
- ESP, Hill Descent Control
- ASR
- Trailer Swing Control
- Lane Departure Warning
- 360 parking cameras
Engines planned for the Landtrek include:
- 1.9L VGT diesel with 150hp, 6-speed manual gearbox
- 2.4L turbocharged petrol with 210hp, 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic
4X2 and 4X4 versions will be offered.
It’s worth noting that the Peugeot Landtrek is actually based on the Chinese made Changan Kaicene F70. Changan themselves used to have a presence in the country. Back in the mid-to-late 2000s they sold a bunch of very basic commercial vehicles in the ‘Era’ family. The company has no doubt changed a lot since then and the Peugeot Landtrek is most likely a more refined vehicle.
Question is, would you buy a Peugeot Landtrek, should they build a RHD converted version of this?
