Are you surprised to find out that there are seventy (70) Malaysians to date showing serious interest to own a Porsche Taycan electric supercar? Well, we are not surprised after getting to know this impressive new electric vehicle.
Yes, we had the great opportunity to test drive this all new electric vehicle from Porsche last year from Austria to Germany and we came away with admiration for its technology, cabin appointments and more importantly, its drive technology.
Demand
Porsche in Malaysia has just ‘whispered’ to us that before the Taycan was launched in Malaysia they had almost 30 interested buyers and then from the date of the official launch there was another 40 interested buyers for this Taycan and the list is growing. This brings the total interested buyers to an impressive 70 Malaysians.
Price
Sime Darby Auto Performance, the authorized importer of Porsche vehicles in Malaysia, launched the Porsche Taycan on the 18th of September 2020. Priced at RM725,000 for the Taycan 4S, RM999.000 for the Taycan Turbo and RM1,195,000 for the Taycan Turbo S, it is the Turbo S that leads the sales demand right now.
Charging
Sime Darby Auto Performance (SDAP) will include in a 22 kW Porsche Mobile Charger Plus and the Porsche Home Energy Manager with every Taycan. The battery is covered under an eight-year warranty, but customers can opt to extend the vehicle warranties for up to fifteen years.
Interested
So, why do we keep saying ‘interested buyers’ and not ‘confirmed bookings’? Well, Porsche have been very strict about the battery charging requirements for each Taycan owner.
Yes, this full electric sports car needs adequate ‘juice’ to charge up the battery for the owner to get the best possible performance and range from their Taycan.
Adequate Power
So each interested buyer needs to have a Porsche ‘Home Check’ done. Home check means a technician will visit the Taycan buyers home to make sure the electricity delivery for the newly installed home battery charger will not affect the power needs of the home as well as the neighbourhood.
This ‘Home Check’ ensures that the Taycan owner has no issue with charging their sports sedan and having the best possible range after every battery charge. It is also to ensure that the surrounding area is not affected when the Taycan is being charged. No Taycan owner wants to have issues with the neighbor and this is important to push sales up in the near future.
Porsche Taycan customers in Malaysia will enjoy the same complimentary and comprehensive four-year maintenance and warranty programme offered for all Porsche cars by SDAP, with the battery covered under an eight-year warranty. Customers can opt to extend the vehicle warranty to an impressive fifteen years.
