02021 Toyota Innova Facelift Has been Leaked Before Launch
The Toyota Innova may be receiving a facelift soon according to sources in Indonesia and Thailand. The facelift brings very small design revisions and will also appear in India. We can also expect UMW Toyota to locally-assemble it in Shah Alam eventually.
From the exterior shots of the car circulating the internet, we can see that this facelifted Innova gets a new front grille, bumper and headlamp housings.
The grille has a smaller aperture than before, with a chrome surround and a new overall hexagonal shape. The Toyota logo is a little larger and is mounted at a different point on the grille as well. New headlamp units are featured as well and they seem to have projectors of some sort, LEDs, perhaps. These new headlamp units have little chrome cutouts where they integrate into the grille. The foglamp housing is now upright too. The grille also ditches the two chrome bars for five slim black-painted bars.
The interior sees some changes too, but they’re very minor. The infotainment is now larger and now free-standing. It’s rumoured that this Innova will make wireless charging available. Other changes will reveal themselves in future.
The Innova first debuted in 2004 as Toyota split the role of the Unser up between it and the lower priced Avanza. The first generation Innova was immensely popular in Malaysia and even served as a TEKS1M (Teksi 1Malaysia) for a period. The 2nd generation model came in 2015, and it introduced a whole new platform as well as other upgrades to the package.
This 2nd generation Innova sent through a few upgrade phases throughout its lifespan. This includes a range topping ‘X’ variant in 2017 and new infotainment features in 2019.
It is not expected that the power units for the Innova will change. In other markets, a 2.7L petrol and 2.4L turbo diesel are the range topping motors. In Malaysia, the Innova is only available with a 2.0L Dual VVT-i petrol motor with a 6-speed automatic sending power to the rear wheels.
