We are talking about the all new 2020 model Isuzu D-Max pickup truck which made its debut in Thailand in October 2019 which is about a year ago. The new-generation Isuzu D-Max is 10mm wider with a wheelbase that is 130mm longer while being 65mm shorter in height. It is 30mm smaller in overall length which can be credited to the D-Max’s new styling.
However, on September 2019, Malaysia saw the launch of the previous version of the Isuzu D-Max, with the class leading 1.0-liter Blue Power diesel engine. This model of the D-Max was launched in Thailand sometime in September 2017 and it was then that Isuzu introduced the 1.9-litre diesel engine that delivers about 150 bhp and has a strong 350 Nm of peak torque along with a more powerful 3-litre diesel engine that makes 177 bhp and 380 Nm of peak torque.
Then in September 2019, this all new D-Max was in launched in the Philippines. Davao and Manila were the first cities to get this D-Max and sales have been growing fast.
On September 1st 2020, just weeks ago, Isuzu Motors Limited began to export the all-new D-Max to Australia and proceeding sequentially to countries across the world.
On September 16th 2020, this all new D-Max was awarded a five-star rating by the ANCAP (Australasian New Car Assessment Program) that comprehensively assesses the safety of new vehicles. It has scored the five-star rating under new 2020 protocols.
The All-new Isuzu D-MAX launched in Australia this month incorporates Isuzu’s ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System*). Reliable real-world detection of obstacles, regardless of day or night, is made possible by superior stereo cameras. Moreover, it is equipped with the latest safety system such as multi collision brake that applies the brakes to mitigate a subsequent impact when a vehicle has been involved in a collision. These safety systems, among other things, are highly rated by the ANCAP which is a new vehicle assessment program.
Through the subsidiary of Isuzu Motors International Operations in Thailand (hereinafter “IMIT”) for which Isuzu holds 70 per cent of the total stake, it distributes to more than 100 countries and regions globally and has sold a total of 2.1 million vehicles. After Australia, Isuzu has plans to export the all-new D-Max to Europe, among others.
Meanwhile, just weeks after its launch in Australia, this all new D-Max is already sold out and has created a 4 month waiting list at press time. Isuzu Malaysia has still not indicated when we will get the class leading pickup truck and India is about to get the all new D-Max in their showrooms …..before Malaysia.
