Hong Leong Yamaha Motor (HLYM) has officially launched the second smallest model in the MT naked bike series – the new Yamaha MT-25.
Priced at RM21,500 (excluding insurance and registration), the MT-25 is powered by 249 cc, parallel-twin DOHC engine that makes 35.1 PS at 12,000 rpm and 23.6 Nm of torque at 10,000 rpm. A six-speed transmission is tasked to channel the output to the wheel.
Standard equipment includes LED headlight, LED turn indicators with hazard light, LCD meter panel, inverted front forks and dual-channel ABS for both the front and rear wheels.
The MT-25 is available in Ice Fluo and Yamaha Blue. Every purchase comes with an exclusive First Edition MT Series pewter key chain made by Royal Selangor.
At the launch event, HLYM also took the opportunity to preview the smaller Yamaha MT-15 naked bike. According to the company, it will follow suit in November this year.

Yamaha’s first hyper naked motorcycle, the MT09 took the Asian market by a storm when it was launched just as the naked bike category popularity grew. Here in Malaysia, there has been a significant increase of interest in the street naked category, and today Hong Leong Yamaha Motor announces its fulfillment of this void with the launching of the Yamaha MT25. Introduced with the usual Yamaha fanfare at the Sofitel Hotel and Resort in Kuala Lumpur, this new model promises to be another hot item in the Yamaha model range.
At the launch event themed ‘Rush of Darkness’, Hong Leong Industries Berhad’s Group Managing Director, Dato’ Jim Khor said, “In 2019, the sales of motorcycles grew to a volume of close to 590,000 units from [no of units]. This was an increase of 8% compared to 2018, and we expect this trend to continue as we fulfill the void in the naked bike category in Malaysia.

Powered by the tested and proven performance-driven with features ranging from liquid-cooled 249cc, 4-stroke, in-line 2-cylinder, DOHC to an 8 valve fuel injected power plant capable of producing 26.5 kW/12,000 rpm of power and a torque of 23.6 Nm/10,000 rpm, the MT25 is a force to be reckoned with in its class.
The new Master of Torque uses Inverted Front Forks that not only provides sure cornering performance but also supports an agile and comfortable riding style while it’s predator-type dual slant LED position lights plus a central mounted LED headlight, full digital LCD meter panel with shift timing light, sleek LED signal indicators with hazard light functionality makes it an impressive looking bike. In addition to this, the MT25 is equipped with the dual channel ABS braking system for both the front and rear wheels, a sought-after feature most Malaysian riders have been waiting for.
