Some time 2017, Subaru Japan quietly released a slightly improved BRZ for its domestic market only, with minor aerodynamic and suspension revisions. This car was also given a more upmarket interior and it came with a manual gearbox.
Now an approved permit car importer has sourced a few very special units of the Subaru BRZ from Japan and they are in his showroom ready for sale. This is a 6-speed manual driven BRZ.
Yes, it is a true blue manual sports car that many will ask for in Malaysia but only a handful of ‘real’ drivers will take ownership.
On the inside it features black leather and Alcantara upholstery with contrasting red stitching and accents throughout the interior including steering wheel; door and dash panels The instrument cluster also has the STi logo which confirms its pedigree.
Pictured here is a 2018 model with slightly more than 4,000 kilometers on the odometer (yes it has NOT been tampered with) in true factory STI Sport trim. This updated sports car gets new ‘rear arch fins’ which the company claim ‘suppress the turbulence of air at the rear of the body to the rear wheel arch’ along with retuned dampers for improved handling.
The BRZ STi takes full advantage of its light weight, ultra-low center of gravity and precision handling, adding quicker response to driver input, better control and increased stability. The upgrade adds STI-tuned front and performance dampers and coil springs as well as an STI flexible V-brace in the engine compartment. New draw stiffeners have been added to the chassis and sub-frame to improve steering response.
This BRZ STi is fitted with lightweight STI wheels that are mounted with 215/40 R 18 tires. A high-performance braking system, using Brembo rotors, 4-piston front calipers and 2-piston rear calipers, enhances stopping power, fade resistance and pedal feel.
The powertrain remains unchanged for this version, which means you get a naturally-aspirated 2.0-litre horizontally-opposed ‘boxer’ engine that needs more grunt for this excellent chassis.
This very limited edition lightly used BR-Z is on sale right now and you can contact Syazwan at 017-3939890 for a viewing and selling price.
In 2017 a brand new stock Subaru BRZ was made available for sale in Malaysia via Motor Image in three colours: Crystal White Pearl, WR Blue Pearl and Pure Red. The then ‘on the road’ selling price inclusive of GST but without insurance was RM224,389 for the manual version and RM230,749 for the automatic version.
