Yes, this is the expected launch price of the latest Hyundai crossover, Kona when it is launched in Malaysia this September 2020.
Targeted at buyers looking at the popular Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-3 and Toyota C-HR, the award winning Kona will be launched before Proton launches their much talked about all new crossover, the X50.
The name Kona which comes from the Hawaiian name Kailua-Kona, is the tourism capital of the Big Island of Hawaii. The city is all about sunshine, seashells, shaved ice and snorkeling. This magical holiday destination is a place that offers a playful escape from the rigors of serious everyday realities and this is what Hyundai looks to do with this brand-new crossover.
The energy of Kailua-Kona is reflected in the innovative, passionate and dynamic image of the new Hyundai, strengthening the brand’s lifestyle vehicle heritage. By developing a completely new premium crossover, identifiable by its distinctive and progressive design, and equipping it with the latest technology in drivetrain, convenience, safety and driver assistance features, Hyundai has created an all-new model that meets the highest customer expectations.
With the Kona, Hyundai designers have created a stylish and highly functional compact SUV, perfectly suited to the needs of customers who pursue challenging, action-filled lifestyles,” says Euisun Chung, Vice Chairman of Hyundai Motor Company.
“We aim to set new standards for the compact SUV segment, with appealing design, cutting-edge connectivity and class leading safety features.” Cut out the press releases and what’s clear is the brand has high hopes for the Hyundai Kona. Not only is Hyundai seeking to be the number one Asian automaker in Europe in less than five years, but this latest addition should also add a nice bump to its presence stateside as well. But this segment is rife with competition – does the Kona have what it takes to take on the rivals?
The Kona crossover will be launched around mid September as per our understanding. The Kona has been revealed via social media much ahead of its launch to create some buzz around this crossover. The aim was to reach out to maximum buyers and be ready to gauge the market response early on. For Malaysia, Hyundai Sime Darby will want to get into the fastest growing segment which is coming from previous compact sedan buyers and some SUB owners looking to downgrade in light of the changing economic times in Malaysia and around the globe
Hyundai is targeting young, fashion-conscious drivers pursuing an active, fast-paced lifestyle. The carmaker believes the model will have a particularly strong appeal to young urban Malaysians with an active trendy lifestyle, the same segment of buyers that have been looking at owning a Mini or Volkswagen Beetle but at a better price point.
At RM115,000, this Kona is about half the price of a Mini Cooper and better priced than the ageing Beetle.
