Sometime in March this year Honda Japan announced the world premiere of their CB-F Concept, which had been planned for appearance at the 36th Osaka Motorcycle Show 2020 and the 47th Tokyo Motorcycle Show, on its website. With Covid-19 still disrupting the world and preventing the launch and test ride of new motorcycles globally, we have been waiting patiently for news of this bikes arrival here in Malaysia.
With Boon Siew Honda in Malaysia opening their premium outlets, it makes great sense for them to have this naked retro looking motorcycle in their showrooms nationwide to tackle the popularity of Ducati bikes.
The styling of this retro motorcycle takes cues from the 1979 Honda CB750F Super Sport with its angular tank that’s closely integrated with the side covers. Compared to the ‘Neo-Sports Café’ look of the current Honda CB1000R, this concept’s styling is a world away with its slimmer, smoother and altogether cleaner design, even though it shares its engine and most of its running parts with the current production Honda CB1000R.
So, what would the selling price be in Malaysia. Well, looking at the current Honda CB1100 RS selling price of RM75,999.00 we estimate a possible selling price of between RM58,000 to RM65,000 which would put this bike side by side with the Ducati Scrambler.
PRESS RELEASE: The CB-F Concept is the result of revisiting the CB series’ history, which reached its sixth decade last year, and thoroughly exploring what to preserve, and what to evolve with the company’s flagship sports bike.
The CB-F Concept is an ambitious fusion of cutting edge technology with a design paying homage to the CB900F (CB750F in Japan), a Japanese global model which, in part through the North American racing scene, brought to the six-decades of CB models an iconic status.
Its 998cc water-cooled, 4-stroke, 4-valve, inline 4-cylinder DOHC engine eases through its rev-range and provides ample torque. The CB-F Concept’s chassis is a lightweight, high-tensile steel mono-backbone structure. Its inverted front fork suspension provides excellent road-holding capabilities over urban and winding roads alike, and realizes a superior riding feel. The rear suspension is a lightweight aluminum single-sided Pro-Arm configuration.
The CB-F was to be launched at the Osaka and Tokyo motorcycle expos this year, but we all know what happened to those. So Honda’s holding its own little virtual expo online, complete with an actual expo stand they’ve built and filmed in 360-degree VR so you can pretend you’re somehow the only person at EICMA this year.
