The Alfa Romeo Giulia is an Italian answer to the BMW 5-Series and many find it to be a more characterful and sensual car. However, in 2020, the design looks a little too soft and not quite as focused as some of its competition. Just think about the latest Hyundai Sonata and Kia Optima and you’ll understand what we mean – these cars may not be to your taste, but they’re more intricate, modern and interesting to look at than the Giulia.
This is probably why Youtube SketchMonkey decided to give his favourite variant of the Giulia a slight design tweak to make it stand out more.
If you watch his video below, you’ll learn his reasoning for choosing this specific variant of the Giulia. He also seems very respectful of both Alfa Romeo’s traditional values and history, while also paying respect to the current Giulia Quadrifoglio’s overall shape and aesthetic.
All he really does is give the face a little more purpose and focus with some angular lines. He does this by making the Scudetto grille the focus of car’s face. To that end, he sculpts hood lines and reshapes the bumper and design elements to align correctly with that iconic triangular grille. This is the final result, notice how subtle but powerful his changes are:
Here’s a before and after:
We recommend you subscribe to SketchMonkey’s Youtube channel for more of these really cool redesigns. He sometimes reimagines classic cars for the modern age, which is also quite interesting.
