The worsening COVID-19 pandemic is forcing many sporting events to be postponed or cancelled as countries around the world take drastic measures to prevent any further transmission of the virus.
In view of this situation, the GT Association Co. Ltd. (GTA) has announced a decision to postpone the 2020 Autobacs SUPER GT Series.
The postponement will have an impact on the running of round 5 of the Series and the SUPER GT Malaysia Festival 2020 which was originally scheduled to be held at the Sepang International Circuit from 16-19 July 2020.
In consultation with GTA and the relevant local authorities, HARO Sports & Entertainment Sdn Bhd (HARO) said that the event will now be deferred to another date which will be announced later.
It will continue to work with relevant authorities to closely monitor the pandemic and an alternative date will be announced as soon as it has been declared that the COVID-19 pandemic no longer poses any threat.
“This is certainly not the way we had envisioned the return of the series to Malaysia after a six-year absence, but a postponement is nevertheless critical to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all stakeholders – local and international fans, spectators, racing teams, event partners, event vendors and event personnel,” the company said in a statement.
“We would like to reassure all fans who have purchased tickets to the event that your tickets will continue to be valid for use.”
