There’s a lot of excitement around today’s launch of the 2020 Proton X70. Not only will this be the first locally-assembled Geely product at the refurbished Tanjung Malim plant, but this model also brings significant changes.
But first, here are the new prices and equipment levels:
Compared to the fully-imported 2018 Proton X70, this 2020 model has 16 obvious changes, plus a few localisation (Battery and tyres, most easy to spot) and behind the scenes improvements that are a little tougher to pin down. But, from our brief encounter with the 2020 model, here’s what we can see has changed compared to initial car.
Aesthetic changes
- New logo on grille
- New logo on rim centre caps
- New engine cover
- New logo projected by puddle lamps
- New logo etched on the windscreen and windows
Equipment changes
- New powered tailgate with kick-to-open function, height memory set
- New reclining rear seats
- New 7-speed dual clutch automatic (Wet clutch, volvo design)
- New drive-by-wire gear selector
- Ventilated front seats
Tuning changes
- Engine retuned for 300Nm of torque (+5%)
- Fuel efficiency improved by 13%
- Acceleration improved by 1 sec (0-100km/h in 9.5 seconds)
Colour changes
- Ruby Red colour option replaces Flame Red
- Space Grey colour option added
Packaging changes
- Executive AWD variant dropped
- Premium and Premium X variants created (With or without sunroof)
