Marc Marquez made a early mistake but managed to race up from 10th place to maintain his 2014 MotoGP unbeaten run with win number 5 in the 2014 French Grand Prix at Le Mans. This win for Marquez makes him the first man since Mick Doohan in the 1997 500cc championship to take 5 poles and 5 wins in a row.
9-time champion Valentino Rossi continued his great start to the season with another second place finish, whilst Alvaro Bautista completed the podium in third place. American riders Nicky Hayden and Colin Edwards did not enjoy a very fruitful weekend. Hayden crashed out on the first lap, whilst Edwards, who is set to retire at the end of the season could only finish 17th.
