Perodua’s Upcoming SUV is in Singapore as the Toyota Raize

Malaysians may have to wait until later this year to get a hold of Perodua’s crossover that’s based on the Daihatsu Rocky. But Singaporean parallel importers have already started to sell the Toyota-badged version of the Rocky called the Raize.

The Toyota Raize is being offered by several parallel importers there, notably Vincar, who have a whole gallery and page dedicated to it.

The Raize is mostly being offered in its XS trim, though some are offering the X spec. The car on Vincar’s website featured steel wheels with hubcaps, manual sliding seats and few creature comforts.

Contrast that with the available kit on the Daihatsu Rocky which we saw in Tokyo. For SG$85,000, the Toyota Raize sure doesn’t look like value for money. But of course, the market there is structured completely differently.

Here’s the description of the Toyota Raize on Vincar’s website.

The highly popular Toyota RAV4 has a little sibling – the all-new Toyota Raize. Measuring under 4 m in length, this compact SUV fits the bill for anyone who desires an SUV, but who also needs the car to be easy to manoeuvre.

The new Toyota Raize incorporates the brand’s next-generation platform (named DNGA) and its drivetrain is also newly developed with the target of achieving excellent driving performance, luxury, safety and peace of mind.

On the outside, the new Raize is characterised by angular bumper corners and trapezoidal lower grille to give it a powerful stance while slim LED headlights and sequential taillights hint of the advanced technologies.

With a class-leading 369 litres of rear luggage space and a host of storage options located all over the spacious cabin, the new Raize’s ability to ferry cargo is second to none. The distance of 900 mm between the front and rear seats translates to ample legroom and knee room for passengers sitting at the back.

On the move, the new Raize offers excellent handling and ride comfort, and its 1-litre turbocharged engine (98 hp and 140 Nm), which is connected to the D-CVT gearbox, enables the compact SUV to achieve the torque of a 1.5-litre engine. The D-CVT gearbox supplements existing CVT belt drives with split gears and utilises both belt and gear drives at high speeds for improved efficiency. Toyota claims a fuel consumption figure of 18.9 km/litre.

One of the new Raize’s key highlights is the latest Smart Assist safety features. These include collision avoidance assist brake function (for vehicle and pedestrian), collision warning function (to vehicle and pedestrian), lane departure control and warning function, false start suppression function with brake control (front and rear) and advance start notification function.
