Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has launched a facelift version of the AMG GT R two years after the model’s first introduction here. This new track-ready GT R was introduced along with its more daily-friendly GT C.

Exterior Changes
Just like the new GT C, the GT R gets updated headlights and taillights but retains the same bumper and diffuser as before.
The LED headlights have got a three-chamber reflector layout with a light guide that works as a DRL, navigation light and signal light depending on necessity.
LED taillights now look more aggressive thanks to darker interior housings and a new, more 3 dimensional look. As before, the exhausts of the GT R are centrally located, with two exits right in the centre and two others off to the sides. The AMG GT R comes with the AMG Performance exhaust system.
Also present is an asymmetrical wheel layout with new 19″ rims up front and 20″ ones at the rear in AMG Performance five twin-spoke rims.
Mercedes-Benz Malaysia have packaged the AMG GT R with the AMG exterior carbon-fibre package II, which gives the car yellow callipers on its AMG ceramic composite braking system.
Interior changes
This facelift of the AMG GT R brings a 12.3″ digital instrument cluster with AMG-specific display styles.
Also present now is a 10.25″ touch-enabled infotainment unit with support for Apple CarPlay.
The GT R gets a Burmerster sound system too. The Mercedes-AMG GT R comes with the AMG Track Pace data logger as part of its COMAND Online system.
Fittingly, it comes with AMG bucket seats, which are covered in a combination of Nappa leather and Dynamic microfibre fabric. AMG matte carbon trim pieces adorn the interior while yellow seat belts are present as highlights.
Elsewhere in the world, the AMG GT R Pro sits as the king of the AMG GT family. While we don’t see that model here, a bit of equipment from that car makes it into our GT R – that’s the AMG Track Package.
The AMG Track Package adds the following:
- rolls bar
- harness mounting brace
- rear braces & diagonal X-brace
- four-point safety harness for driver
- fire extinguisher
Safety First
The AMG GT R gets Active Brake Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Assist, as well as convenience features like Parktronic parking assist, and cameras for both the front and rear.
Powertrain unchanged
The new AMG GT R retains the same 4.0L Biturbo V8 as before with 585hp and 700Nm of torque, paired to the same 7-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT. While tuning is unchanged, a new AMG Dynamics programme gives better management of power distribution and steering characteristics.
