Ford has just announced that its momentum to start the year in Malaysia continued in March by delivering its best-ever sales for the month, and capping off its all-time best first quarter performance. Driven by continued strength in demand for the all-new Ranger, Fiesta, Focus and Kuga nameplates, March retail sales rose 18 percent year-over-year to 1,049 vehicles. Overall retail sales during Ford’s record first quarter in Malaysia increased more than three percent to 2,924 vehicles.
“Our expanding product lineup in Malaysia is helping the Ford brand appeal to even more customers across the country, and helping drive a steadily increasing flow of traffic to our nationwide network of Ford showrooms,” said David Westerman, managing director, Malaysia and Asia Pacific Emerging Markets, Ford Motor Company.
“We’re confident to build on this record first quarter performance with the introduction of more segment-leading global Ford vehicles this year,” added Westerman.
The class-defining all-new Ranger pickup delivered another strong month in March with retail sales jumping 44 percent year-over-year to 621 units. Healthy demand across the entire lineup helped to drive the Ranger’s all-time best quarterly performance in Malaysia with sales rising 37 percent from a year ago to 1,719 units.
The technology packed all-new Focus delivered March retail sales of 104 units, driving its total first quarter sales up to 294 units. Malaysian customers continue to appreciate the array of smart technologies and features of the all-new Focus, including the include Active Park Assist, Active City Stop and Blind Spot Information System, as well as its class-leading safety package.
According to Ford’s analysis of new vehicle registrations from Polk, the global Focus retained its title as the world’s best-selling vehicle nameplate in 2013.
The significantly redesigned new Fiesta subcompact achieved March retail sales of 239 units, with overall sales during the company’s record first quarter totaling 686 units. According to the same new vehicle registration data from Polk, the Fiesta was the best-selling subcompact car globally.
Ford will further expand the Fiesta lineup in Malaysia next month, and give customers another way to connect with this popular vehicle with the upcoming launch of the new Fiesta 1.0L EcoBoost.
Ford’s award-winning 1.0L EcoBoost is an innovative three-cylinder powertrain that combines turbocharging and direct fuel injection to deliver the power and performance of a traditional 1.6L petrol engine, while delivering class-leading fuel efficiency and emissions levels.
The stylish and versatile all-new Kuga SUV also contributed to the record first quarter performance with overall retail sales of 214 units, including March sales of 83 units.
The Euro NCAP five-star safety-rated Kuga embodies Ford’s global SUV heritage and expertise, and is equipped with the powerful and fuel efficient 1.6L EcoBoost engine.
The Kuga offers an array of smart features and technologies that include Ford’s Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system, hands-free lift gate that operates with a gentle kicking motion and Ford SYNC with Emergency Assist.
“The Kuga is packed full of innovative features, and really takes SUV styling and technology to a whole new level,” explained Westerman.
