The Mitsubishi Outlander Almost Does it All for Less

If you’re in the market for a Japanese monocoque-chassis SUV, you’ve got quite a few to choose from. But only 2 of your options will offer you a 5+2 configuration. One of those two is the Mitsubishi Outlander 2.0 and what’s special about it is that it throws just about every feature you could ask for and still costs under RM140,000.

Here’s a quick run through of the Outlander’s impressive equipment and feature list:

  • Multi-Select 4WD system
  • 7 SRS airbags
  • Hill Start Assist
  • Keyless entry and start
  • Dual zone auto climate control
  • Touchscreen with Bluetooth, Apple Carplay, Android Auto
  • 18″ dual tone alloy rims
  • Security and Solar window tint
  • Rest Reminder
  • 3rd row of seats that can be deployed when needed
  • Slide and tilt adjustability on 2nd row of seats
  • Integrated DVR (front-facing driving video recorder)
  • All-round Monitor (360-degree camera)
  • Front and Rear parking sensors
  • Reverse camera

Below RM140,000 it’s rare for Japanese SUVs to come with this many features.

One Catch

That relatively low pricetag does come at a ‘cost’. And the cost in the case of the Outlander is the absence of driver assistance features. It’s not like Mitsubishi Motors doesn’t have the technology in their parts bin. Their latest Triton VGT Adventure – a pickup truck – offers things like autonomous emergency braking amongst other things. So it’s perhaps only a matter of time before the Outlander gets kitted out with this. But for now, you’ll just have to take that significant price difference for what it is.

Otherwise the Mitsubishi Outlander 2.0 AWD comes across as a solidly-put together family-friendly SUV for those looking for good value and a well-equipped daily driver.
