You probably never heard of IGL Coatings and what they bring to the global marketplace.
This is a 100% Malaysian company that produces paint, plastic and metal coating products for the automotive industry and beyond. Yes, we say beyond because their products can also be used for non-automotive application like planes and ‘flying cars’.
With a business presence in 50 countries IGL Coatings is working with more than 3,000 installers using 37 eco-friendly products.
Below are some of the most popular IGL Coatings products that we in the automotive industry will be using.
Having been in the automotive reporting industry for more than 20 years, we have never seen or heard of this IGL Coatings and their products until a few months ago when their marketing team contacted us to attend a signing ceremony at Martrade with their overseas network of partners.
After the signing ceremony we spoke with the founder of IGL Coatings, Mr. Keong Chun Chieh. He shared with us his trouble start in the business when Malaysian consumers were not eager to try a Malaysian made against the imported branded products that were slowly flooding the market.
An electrical engineer by education, Keong wanted a product that worked better than his then overseas branded windshield coating that needed monthly applications. He did his research and after some trial and error a product surpassing his branded shop product was ready and working great.
He then realised that there was more to be developed. The auto paint coating business was booming and this was where he developed his range and went full-time into it. With a small and dedicated team he saw bigger potential in the American market and took a booth at SEMA to show case his product. The American consumers did not take him seriously. After all he was an asian venturing into a segment dominated by American brands at the biggest tuning show in the world, SEMA.
Not willing to give up, he waited patiently and the following year went back to SEMA and this time he got noticed. Dealers started working with him and by the third SEMA show IGL Coatings was a known brand.
However, there was still no presence in Malaysia. So, in the last year IGL Coatings have introduced their range to the online shopping network, Lazada, iprice and shopee with some success. Now comes the next step, letting Malaysians understand why its better to invest in ceramic coating product that can repel the following:
- Bird droppings
- Tree gum
- Insect acid
- Road tar
- Brake dust
- Acid rain and more
