Why Are Desirable Cars Abandoned Like This

We here at dsf.my believe in preserving older vehicles, or at least finding them a new home when we’re done with ownership. We get that it’s not always easy to get the price you’re looking for, but surely Toyotas shouldn’t be too hard to move at a decent price?

Which is why it surprised us to see this 1st generation Toyota Harrier left to rot by the side of the road.

The 1st generation Toyota Harrier was made at a time before the Lexus brand was introduced in Japan. As a result, it was essentially a luxury car with a Toyota badge and many (including this owner) have taken to replacing the Toyota logos with Lexus ones. He didn’t manage to get to the rims or the Harrier badge before deciding to abandon the car though.

The successor to this model continued on the same path, but the 3rd generation was sold only as a Lexus. Now we have the Harrier as its own distinct (and brilliant) model.

This generation of Toyota Harrier typically sells for RM10,000 to RM25,000 on listing sites. Even if the engine or transmission was completely shot, we’re sure the owner could have made some money on it by selling it for parts. Whatever the case, this is a waste and the longer it sits out there, the tougher it’s going to be to make use or money out of it.
