Sportscar Together Day Brought 2,000 Enthusiasts Together

Over the weekend, more than 2,000 visitors came together for Porsche’s Sportscar Together Day at the Sepang International Circuit. Porsche owners and enthusiasts of all ages were present to celebrate the brand and its 70-year heritage.

Some of the highlights at the event were:

  • The 911 GT3 Cup race cars from the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia
  • All 8 generations of the Porsche 911
  • The LMP1 Porsche 919 Hybrid
  • A 1:3 Scale model of the Porsche Mission E
  • A Porsche Junior Experience Programme for kids to ‘drive’ around on a customised miniaturised replica of the track
  • A new Malaysian Record for ‘Largest Porsche Gathering’

That last one’s really significant. Sime Darby Auto Performance (SDAP) managed to gather 320 cars together for a parade around the Sepang Circuit.

Sportscar Together Day was initiated last year as part of the brand’s 70th anniversary and looking at the success of this year’s celebration it may become a new tradition for the brand.

A sports car is more than a car. It’s driven by shared experiences and memories, which is the foundation on which Sportscar Together Day was first conceived on in conjunction with the 70th anniversary of Porsche last year. Sime Darby Auto Performance (SDAP) is continuing this tradition and held the first Sportscar Together Day in Malaysia on 3 August 2019. Porsche owners and enthusiasts were united in their celebration of the brand and heritage of Porsche. Featuring race cars, super cars and everyday sports cars, the family-friendly event catered to everybody of all ages and interests.

With over 2,000 visitors joining Porsche to celebrate Sportscar Together Day, droves of Porsche enthusiasts were treated to a closer look at Porsche’s iconic models in its 70-year heritage, including the 911 GT3 Cup race cars from Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, 8 generations of the 911, the 919 Hybrid and the Mission E 1:3 scale model. They learnt the historical milestones of the brand in the Fascination Porsche showcase that provided insights into the past and future of Porsche. In conjunction with Sportscar Together Day, the arrival of the new Macan S to the Malaysia market was also announced.

Fans also witnessed the setting of the new Malaysian Record for ‘Largest Porsche Gathering’ on the internationally-acclaimed Sepang International Circuit, with a recorded 320 Porsche cars. The corral of cars that gathered then celebrated the achievement with a victory lap around the circuit.

As a nod to the sports car DNA that runs deep in every Porsche, enthusiasts who participated at the Porsche Experience left with high adrenaline and a strong understanding of the dynamics of driving a Porsche. Parents who signed their child up for the Porsche Junior Experience programme walked away proud of their child’s achievements on the customised replica of Sepang International Circuit.
