Proton and Geely are already churning out products together, but we’ve yet to see an all new design. So far, besides the minor cosmetic changes on the X70, Iriz, Persona and Exora facelifts, we’ve yet to really see what Proton’s future lineup will look like. We’re sure they’re cooking up some brilliant things at the Proton Design Studio, but for now we’ll have to make do with the work of automotive rendering wiz Theophilus Chin.
The last time he tackled the Proton Saga, he didn’t make quite so many drastic changes.
This Saga featured a few more dynamic angle, a grille from the X70 and some other minor improvements. This time though, he’s gone all out with a retro-modern render of a Proton Saga Aeroback.
Premium Spec, Red
This render merges both Proton’s past and Geely’s current elements. The flat, body coloured front panel harkens back to the original Saga. This design element was carried throughout the 1st generation, from the Iswara to the Saga LMST. The trapezoidal headlights, the simple, low character line, as well as the flat rear wheel arch… These are all hallmark design traits of the Saga.
The rear end is thoroughly modernised and here’s where we see a couple of different takes. This red, ‘premium’ spec one has a piano black strip running across the rear and more generic looking rear lamps. The modern looking dual tone alloys look great but don’t quite fit the profile of the Saga as a budget friendly A-segment sedan.
This blue ‘low spec’ render is largely similar at the front but some nice little touches, like the simple rims with colour-matched hub caps give it a more character.
Interestingly, the rear end here looks more like a Geely. The taillights seem to be inspired by the Geely Bin Rui.
We really like how these rendered turned out. Proton’s Design Studio really needs to consider offering him a place within their ranks.
