Mercedes-Benz presented a concept that puts road safety in the spotlight. ESF 2019 is based on the recent GLE and is on display at the ESV conference in Eindhoven.
This concept car is an experimental Mercedes-Benz safety vehicle. It aims to make the future of the autonomous car a little safer than currently. The Germans christened this reflection “ESF 2019”. It takes the features of an SUV that is a GLE. This is a hybrid plugin version capable of driving completely autonomously.
The ESF 2019 is full of new technologies to ensure the safety of the occupants and, is a bit new, other road users. Example: The pedals and the steering wheel retract when the car is driving independently to avoid injury in the event of a collision. And in the back, children are protected by the so-called “Pre-Safe Child” technology. More than a concept, this vehicle is a real laboratory that says a lot about the ambitions of Mercedes who obviously wants to integrate these technologies in future vehicles. As a reminder, the ESV concept presented in 2009 has become a reality today. Because the innovative equipment he presented at the time are now mounted in all Mercedes.
