There’s a new Hyundai Elantra in town and it looks like nothing else on the road today. Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors has launched just one variant of the Elantra – the 2.0 Executive for RM109,888.
This new Elantra looks completely different from the previous one, but under the skin it’s mechanically very similar to the car it replaces. In a sense it’s more of an extensive facelift than an all-new model, but there are many changes here.
The new Elantra is 7cm longer than the car it replaces, with new triangular headlights, tail lights, grille, 17″ two-tone alloy wheels and body panels.
The engine and gearbox have been retained from the previous car. You still get the 2-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol. This Nu 2.0 MPi puts out 152hp and 192Nm of torque and is paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The car is decently equipped with 6 airbags, a 7″ infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Car Play, a rear view camera and leather seats.
The new Elantra is being offered in 5 colours: Polar White, Fluid Metal, Fiery Red, Teal Blue, and Phantom Black. Interestingly, 2 ‘limited edition’ colours will be temporarily available. These are Stargazing Blue and Sparkling Metal.
It comes with a 5 year/300,000km warranty with 24 hour road assist.
Sadly, the Elantra Turbo has been dropped from the lineup.

Press release:
Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) officially launched its redesigned Elantra today with a revolutionary new exterior design, interior refinements and a favourable price of RM109,888.00 (On the road price without insurance, for Peninsular Malaysia) for the 2.0L Executive variant.
Hyundai’s C-segment sedan, the Elantra remains one of HSDM’s best sellers since 2012 and with the launch of this new bold design, HSDM aims to strengthen its presence in the medium-sized passenger car segment.
The redesigned Elantra features an overall length of 4620mm, which is 70mm longer than the previous version, while its wheelbase remains the same. Anchoring the new design are the new triangular headlights, tail lights and rear fog lamps as well as a new sporty radiator grille. Other upgrades include a two-tone rear bumper and a repositioned plate number which is now moved lower to the bumper. Coupled with a stylish 17-inch two-tone alloy wheels and chrome moulding on its belt line, the Elantra accentuates its superior appearance.
The cabin is also refreshed with a new sporty chequered cluster meter design, a newly designed multifunctional steering wheel with control buttons, all-black plush leather seats and a soft touch material dashboard.
The 2.0L Executive maintains the same powertrain and transmission as the previous version. The 2.0L version is powered by a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine, which delivers 152 PS at 6,200 rpm and 192Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm and is paired with Hyundai’s 6-speed automatic transmission.
This new version also introduces the Smart Drive Mode intelligent system that identifies your driving style and then automatically selects a driving mode i.e Normal or Sport, that is best suited to your driving needs.
Built with High-Strength Steel with the use of 53% of Advanced High-Strength Steel, the Elantra has a stiffer torsional rigidity and 25.3 percent greater bending strength, which bring improvements in vehicle ride and handling, quietness, durability and driving performance. It also has an increased structural adhesive application 40 times at higher stress points on the chassis to reinforce welding areas. A component often found in aerospace applications, these structural adhesives also contribute to improved NVH and vehicle dynamics due to extra stiffness in the chassis. Hyundai engineers focused on these enhancements to develop a more rigid body structure, with the aim of achieving top safety ratings by the IIHS and NHTSA.
The Elantra offers convenience, safety and comfort with a host of advanced features which include a multimedia system that is equipped with Android Auto and Apple Car Play, segment-exclusive Hands-free Smart Trunk, a six airbag system along with Electronic Stability Control, Vehicle Stability Management, Traction Control, ABS, a rear-view camera, Parking Guidance System, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, and Hill-Start Assist Control.
The Elantra is available in 5 popular colours namely Phantom Black, Fiery Red, Teal Blue, Fluid Metal, and Polar White. In addition to the 5 colours, limited edition colours such as Stargazing Blue and Sparkling Metal are also available for a limited period of time in conjunction with the official launch.
HSM offers a 5-year or 300,000km (whichever comes first) warranty on all its new passenger vehicles. A 24-hour road assist service is also now available to new and existing Hyundai vehicles.
