BMW announces the start of mass production of the BMW 7 Series facelift at the BMW Group Plant Dingolfing, Germany.
About three and a half years after the launch of the 6th generation, this top model has been carefully revised and will now have a more pronounced presence in the segment.
Redesigned, the front and rear offers the new BMW 7 Series a unique expressive appearance. In front, the extended radiator grille contrasts with thin headlights. The BMW 7 Series is easily recognizable as part of the new BMW luxury segment, using a compatible design language with the BMW 8 Series and the BMW X7.
Rear design brings new accents: three-dimensional and thinner hinges rely entirely on LED technology. Underneath the chrome bar between the two stops, there is a 6 mm thin, luminous strip that creates a discreet focus when the daytime lights are on and which creates a spectacular presence at night. There is also a special luminous effect of the stops when the car is closed or open.
The BMW 7 Series will continue to be available in two body options, including the long wheelbase, which is 14cm larger. In total, 80% of customers opt for this version, which gives more space for rear passengers.
The interior of the new BMW 7 Series Sedan is now available with leather with special stitching around the center console, the armrest, and the armrests integrated into the door trim. A new interior insert with fine wood is also available.
To further enhance the acoustic comfort, the side windows now come with an increased glass thickness.
For the first time for a BMW Group car, a hybrid plug-in system will be available with a 6-cylinder engine. The BMW 745e and 745Le , which has a 6-cylinder engine develops 286hp, is combined with an electric motor of 113hp for a total power of 394hp.
The new BMW 7 Series facelift is also the first BMW Group to feature a 4th generation battery. The latest battery cell technology offers the luxury sedan an electric range of up to 58 kilometers, providing locally zero zero-driven driving. The battery packed in the BMW 745e and 745Le is produced in Dingolfing.
Since the start of production of the first generation BMW 7 Series in 1977 and up to now have been built over 1.9 million units. From the beginning, the global market has been crucial to the success of this luxury sedan. The BMW 7 Series is the number one model in terms of export from the Bavarian plant.
Last year, over 90% of all produced units were exported abroad. The Chinese market plays a particularly important role for this model: in 2018, 44% of global sales were delivered to Chinese customers.
