When Volkswagen first said they would be making a B-segment crossover, most assumed a GTI variant would follow eventually.
Now, the T-Roc has gone full R and they’re throwing some serious performance numbers and high levels of equipment its way. In fact, the Volkswagen T-Roc R has some 300PS and 400Nm of torque to play with, making it a seriously fast car considering its small size.
That power, in true Volkswagen fashion, comes from a 2-litre, 4-cylinder TSI engine with a 7-speed DSG sending power to the 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system. The entire powertrain is capable of moving the T-Roc R from 0-100km/h in just 4.9 seconds.
The suspension has been lowered from the factory, the steering has been tuned for better responsiveness.
The brakes, on the other hand, comes straight from the Volkswagen Golf R Performance.
Changes have been made to the exterior and interior in line with modern ‘R-Design’ aesthetic. A new radiator grille with a polished band of anodised aluminium that runs underneath it. Plenty of “R” logos and newly designed bumpers and air inlets are also featured. The underbody guard is now colour-keyed with the rest of the trim. The T-Roc R can be specced for either 18″ or 19″ wheels. An R-performance Akrapovic titanium exhaust system too is available.
There are some changes to the interior too. More “R” logos, a unique sports steering wheel with paddle shifters. A black headliner tops it off.
There’s no word on whether even the standard T-Roc will make it to Malaysian shores. Enjoy the photos of this version of the car in the meantime.
