Tianshi Racing Team has assembled an exciting two car Audi R8 LMS GT3 line-up for this weekend’s 4 Hours of Sepang in Malaysia, which is the season finale of the 2018/19 Asian Le Mans Series.
20-year-old Audi Sport driver Dries Vanthoor is set to reunite with former Audi Sport R8 LMS Cup Am+ champion David Chen and joined by accomplished sports car competitor Xu Wei in the #88 Audi R8 LMS. The young Belgian’s impressive racing CV includes a Bathurst 12 Hour win and his participation further strengthens Tianshi Racing Team’s assault on the final race of the endurance series’ four-event winter season.
Meanwhile, in the #66 GT Am championship-leading Audi R8 LMS will be 2014 Asian Le Mans Series GT Am champion Max Wiser, who tops the driver classification going in to the final race, and the Chinese duo, Dennis Zhang and Aven Qi. Qi has competed in TCR races with Tianshi Racing Team, and makes the step up to GT racing with the team at the Sepang International Circuit.
“Tianshi Racing Team is one of China’s most competitive and professional teams, and it’s great to see how they continue to extend their international footprint,” said Martin Kuehl, Director of Audi Sport customer racing Asia. “Audi Sport driver Dries Vanthoor linked up well with the team earlier in the Asian Le Mans Series season and we are now looking forward to an exciting finale.”
Heading into the series finale at Malaysia’s F1-standard, 5.543km Sepang International Circuit, Tianshi Racing Team leads the GT Am team standings and currently lies third in the GT classification, with Chen fourth in the drivers classification.
