At the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, Volkswagen showed the facelifted B8 Passat. This ‘major technical update’ brings quite a few innovations and will be launched in Germany come September 2019.
The biggest draw is the new “Travel Assist” feature. This feature will make this the first Volkswagen that is capable of partially automated driving at any speed under 210km/h thanks to the IQ.DRIVE system.
This system can be operated through the facelifted Passat’s capacitive steering wheel.
Another new feature in the Passat is “Emergency Steering Assist”, which selectively operates the brakes when performing evasive manoeuvres. There are also new “IQ.LIGHT – LED matrix headlights”.
The Passat will now be fit with the third generation Modular Infotainment Matrix (MIB3). This brings wireless connectivity to Apple CarPlay and a host of other online services.
The digital instrument cluster has been redesigned with high-contrast graphics and three different display configurations.
