Mitsubishi Delica Returns……2019 Model First Showing

This is Mitsubishi’s answer to the booming SUV and crossover segments globally and It’s called the D:5 Delica. For some of you who have never heard of the Delica, well Mitsubishi released in the early 1980s a rugged 6-seat van/mpv that was sold just in Japan, Taiwan, Australia and ASEAN with limited success. Well, the buyers were less adventurous then. Now comes a brand new generation with bold new design and advanced technologies.

This all new Delica carries the design language of the all new Triton truck with the front end now even more expressive with 3 rows of lights. With LED headlights at the top, DRLs below them, and fog lamps at the bottom. At the back, the light signature is in the shape of the R letter or what Mitsubishi calls RR Combi Lamp.

The interior features a 6-seat layout with 6 separate chairs in 3 rows. The dashboard is all new with a massive tablet dominating the center console. Just below that display, Mitsubishi has positioned the controls for the air conditioning, the drive modes selector, and the gear shift.

The transmission is all new. This new D:5 Delica uses a new 8-speed automatic that is mated to a 2.2-liter turbodiesel engine with 170 horsepower and a mighty 392NM of torque. Power is channeled through the automatic to an all-wheel-drive system that has 3 modes – 2WD, 4WD, and Lock. More on this new Delica will be shared soon.

Below are pictures of the early model Delica that sold in small numbers and you might still be able to see a few on our Malaysian roads.
