The race was yellow flagged immediately and rescue teams were almost immediately on the scene attending to both Gidley and Malucelli, who remained in the cars. Soon after the red flag came out – the first time in the Rolex 24 since 2004 – Malucelli was able to get out of the Ferrari, which came to rest against the barriers shortly before the high speed kink.
Gidley, however, remained in the heavily damaged #99. The rescue crews endeavouring to free the American from the car in which Alex Gurney won the pole position. However, it did briefly appear that he was moving, though there was no report as the existence, or severity of any injuries to either driver.
