Michelin announces a new milestone in tire technologies: rain grooves which expand as the tire wears out, making sure they maintain the same ability to channel water out and providing grip. The new Premier A/S all-season tire technology is only available for car tires, but it is logical to expect it adapted for motorcycle ones, too. These tires are manufactured with a special high-grip compound with large amounts of silica and special-design treads which are growing wider as the tire wears. Even more, Michelin has Emerging Grooves, which are hidden when the tire is new, and emerge as the rubber scrapes off. Such tires not only come with extended life, but their performance in the wet is said to remain consistent even as they become worn, adding to the safety factor. While Michelin did not mention more on this technology, something tells us it’s not going to be long until we see is adapted for motorcycles.
