VESPA Will Soon Buzz Electrically

Piaggio will be bringing to market the electric Vespa. With 200 Newton meters of torque and 100 kilometers range, this iconic looking scooter is targeted for global launch this October. There is also a version with a range extender.

The Vespa Elettrica is powered by a 2 kW (2.7 hp) electric motor with peak power of up to 4 kW (5.4 hp). This puts the e-scooter on the same level as conventional petrol engines. In terms of torque, however, the Elettrica leaves the 1950s model far behind. Piaggio gives 100Nm where 4-stroke engines usually come to a maximum of 4 Newton meters.

The lithium-ion battery sits under the helmet compartment in the seat. Underneath that is the charging cable. The storage space under the seat should not be limited by the battery. However, Vespa does not offer a removable battery for charging in the home, the charging time should be 4-hours on the household can.

Up to 1,000 charging cycles, the battery is to survive without major restrictions. This corresponds approximately to a mileage of 50,000 to 70,000 kilometers or a 10-year use cycle, according to Piaggio. There will be two driving modes, which can be adjusted on the handlebar, to change the character of the Vespa. A special economy mode limits the speed of the Elettrica to a maximum of 30km/h.

Your smartphone, which can be connected via a new infotainment system with 4.3-inch display, can monitor all important functions of the scooter. With buttons on the handlebars it can also control certain function of the smartphone (calls, messages, music). However, this requires the use of a special Vespa Elettrica app.
