The iconic Ford Escort nameplate will return next year, 2015 model year, when the compact sedan will be launched in China first. Although it will be built by the Changan-Ford joint venture, the brand new Escort will not developed in China. Ford decided that design and development duties will be handed over to its Australian division, who also created the global Ranger pickup truck.
Little is know about the new Escort, but Ford insider source claims that the sedan will be launched with 1.3-liter and 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engines. The production version of the Ford Escort concept will be one of 15 new Fords set to go on sale in China, the world’s biggest automotive market, by 2015.
