There are more to see besides passenger vehicles, concept cars, exotic cars and bikes at the 9th edition of the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show 2018 (KLIMS’18) as commercial vehicles manufacturers and distributors are set to showcase a variety of models at the event. There will be an autocade of commercial vehicles for the business sector to shop for vehicles to suit their business needs.
Datuk Aishah Ahmad, President of Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA), said “To support the economic engines of Malaysia, commercial vehicles are an important component in the supply chain. As such, KLIMS’18 will present a range of commercial vehicles for the business sector and the general public to check out the new and exciting possibilities of people and goods movers.”
According to MAA’s latest data, new commercial vehicles (trucks, prime movers, pick-up, panel vans and buses) registered in Malaysia for the first half of 2018 (year-to-date at June 2018) recorded 28,671 units while commercial vehicles produced and assembled in Malaysia for the first half of 2018 recorded 19,623 units. In 2017, the total sales and production of commercial vehicles total stood at 61,956 (registered) and 40,081 (produced and assembled) respectively. Production volumes are expected to increase in 2018 to keep up with demand.
The increase in demand for commercial vehicles is fuelled by the versatility of pickup trucks and the haulage capabilities of trucks and prime movers for long-distance transport tasks. OEMs are taking advantage of this trend by offering multiple variants and facelift models. The automobile industry is also making commercial vehicles more environmentally friendlier, economical and safer.
Isuzu will be showcasing their latest breakthrough in diesel engine technology, the 1.9L BluePower diesel engine, while Tata Motors, along with its authorized distributor DRB-HICOM Commercial Vehicles (DHCV), will be showcasing the Super Ace small pick-up, Ultra trucks and Prima prime mover.
Another interesting showcase at KLIMS’18 is MSM Metal Industries Sdn. Bhd., a metal engineering company and an OEM Contract Manufacturing for kitchen appliances and equipment which has been fabricating mobile food trucks. The company is constructing a 20-foot high robot named “Tanker” from metal and automotive parts to be showcased for the first time in Malaysia.
Organised by the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA), KLIMS’18 will be held from 23 November to 2 December 2018 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), with the theme “Beyond Mobility”. KLIMS’18 has confirmed the participation of local and international automotive companies to showcase the latest product ranges, trends and technologies in the market from concept cars to passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, two-wheelers to automotive accessories and care products.
