Compared to the American design and sold F-150 Raptor, the specifications of the ASEAN Ranger Raptor might seem modest but think again.
A 4-cylinder diesel with 2.0 liters displacement drives this venomous ASEAN truck. Charged by two turbochargers the ASEAN Raptor makes 213hp and pushes 500 Newton meters on the crankshaft. The American F-150 draws 457hp from a 3.5-liter V6 biturbo that burns petrol, not diesel like in the ASEAN Raptor.
As with the F-150, the Ranger Raptor’s 10-speed automatic transmission distributes power to all four wheels. All-Terrain tires of dimension 285/70 R17 make contact with the ground.
The should be above all rough. With pick-ups and especially with the Raptors, performance is mainly measured off-road. Four of the Ranger Raptor’s six riding modes are for off-road use. There is a profile for grass, gravel and snow, one for mud and sand, one for rocks and a so-called “Baja” mode. The optimizes the Ranger Raptor, simply put, for desert rallies. High speeds and fun with relaxed control systems are in the foreground.
For the road, Ford offers a sport mode in addition to the standard “comfort, fuel economy and driveability” driving program. Responsiveness and shift strategy should support a more sporty driving style.
