Look back on the tremendous legacy of the BMW 3 Series across the globe
BMW Group Malaysia has officially kicked off celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the iconic 3 Series, a model that has defined both the BMW brand globally and Malaysia’s automotive landscape since the 1970s. To celebrate, BMW Malaysia has also unveiled the exclusive BMW M340i xDrive Edition 50 Jahre, a limited-edition model of only 50 units.
The New BMW M340i xDrive Edition 50 Jahre features premium upgrades such as Sensatec upholstery, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Parking Assistant Plus and exclusive M Performance enhancements. Distinctive design elements like a unique “50 Jahre Edition” plaque and B-pillar engraving elevate its exclusivity.
Moreover, as BMW commemorates this legacy, it also continues to make global strides. In Q1 2025, the BMW Group delivered 586,149 vehicles across BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce brands, with fully-electric vehicle (BEV) deliveries surging 32.4 percent to 109,516 units. MINI achieved 35.3 percent electric share, while BMW contributed over 86,000 electric units.
Jean-Philippe Parain, Senior VP of BMW Group, highlighted the company’s balanced approach to innovation, consistency and customer choice. Benjamin Nagel, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia, emphasized the BMW 3 Series’ lasting appeal and evolving legacy in Malaysia and across the globe as well.
On top of that, spanning seven generations, the BMW 3 Series has introduced timeless design and advanced technology. From the original E21 (1975) to the current G20 (2018–present), each generation has elevated the model’s legacy. Key highlights include the debut of the BMW M3 in the E30, the launch of Compact variants in the E36, the record-setting E46 and the tech-packed F30 and G20 models.
