Porsche 911 Carrera and Carrera 4 GTS Hybrid Launched In Malaysia

These two Porsche 911 variants mark the 15th anniversary of Porsche Malaysia.

The iconic Porsche 911 now has more options available in Malaysia with the introduction of the Carrera and Carrera 4 GTS. These two variants were introduced yesterday at The Exchange TRX Mall and will be open to the public until the 13th of April 2025. The introduction of these two models happens on the occasion of Porsche Malaysia’s (represented by Sime Darby Auto Performance) 15th anniversary. Here’s a breakdown of what each of these new 911 variants brings to the table.

Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS (from RM1,890,000)

This variant features the first-ever hybrid motor in a 911. This powertrain integrates a newly-developed electric exhaust gas turbocharger and an electric motor between the compressor and turbine wheel which serves as a generator that extracts 11kW of electricity from exhaust gas flow. The addition of this motor negates a twin-turbo setup and they’ve even gotten rid of the wastegate.

The traction motor is found within the 8-speed PDK. Its introduction supports the petrol motor with 150Nm of electric torque and 40kW of power boost. A new 1.9 kWh high-voltage battery takes the place of your conventional 12 volt starter battery and operates at 400V. There’s still an additional 12V lithium-ion battery for the electrical systems.

The T-hybrid drive is built around a newly-developed 3.6L boxer engine. The air cond compressor, that normally draws power from the engine now takes its power from the electrical system thus improving the overall efficiency of the petrol motor. The engine is smaller than its predecessor and makes room for additional items such as a pulse inverter and a DC-DC converter.

The petrol engine features VarioCam camshaft control and a valve control with rocker arms. On its own it can deliver 485PS and 570Nm of torque. Combined with the electrical system you get 541PS and 610Nm of torque, which represents a 61PS increase over its direct predecessor while weighing just 50kg more.

The increase in weight calls for a revision of the suspension. This 911 Carrera 4 GTS comes with rear-axle steering as standard. The sports suspension with variable damper system (PASM) is 10mm lower. There are seven wheel designs available in staggered 19/20-inch or 20/21-inch setups.

The 911 Carrera 4 GTS has 5 verticalled-arranged active cooling air flaps, adaptive front diffusers on the underbody, and has its ADAS sensors integrated below the number plate on a high-gloss surface. This model gets as standard a GTS-specific sports exhaust system. Headlights can be upgraded to HD matrix LEDs with more than 32,000 light points and a 600 meter illumination with more lighting functions. The light strip at the rear has been redesigned with an integrated arc and a widened Porsche logo. The rear grille is new with five fins per side, connecting to the rear window. The rear number plate is a little higher.

The Porsche 911 Carrera

If you’re looking for a more traditional 911, the standard 911 Carrera is still available with its 3.0L twin-turbocharged engine. This refreshed model has a revamped engine which features the intercooler from the Turbo model. It sits under the rear lid grille above the engine. The turbochargers from the previous GTS model are now found here, resulting in an increase of power to 394PS and 450Nm of torque. This allows the 911 Carrera to complete the century sprint in just 4.1 seconds (or 3.9 seconds if you opt for the Sport Chrono package). The top speed is 294km/h. The new 911 Carrera will be available in Coupé body style with rear-wheel drive and a PDK as standard.

In terms of looks, the 911 Carrera gets new model-specific bumpers, integrated light functions in the standard matrix LED headlights.

A sports exhaust system is optionally available for the 911 Carrera and an optional aero kit with a distinctive SportDesign front bumper with a unique front spoiler, matching side sill panels and a lighter, fixed rear wing are available too.

Inside, the new Porsche 911 gets some revisions. This includes a start button for the first time on a 911, a fully-digital instrument cluster (also a first). This is a 12.6″ curved display.

Apple CarPlay is more integrated into the car and now displays information in the instrument cluster.
