Next-Gen Hydrogen System Pushing Trucks Over 1,000KM On One Tank

Hydrogen System Track 1000 is truly a game changer in the mobility game

China has once again made a massive stride in clean energy with its new Track 1000, a next-generation liquid hydrogen fuel-cell system designed to revolutionise the long distance truck game. Developed by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), this innovative system enables trucks to travel over 1,000km on a single tank!

The Track 1000 system integrates a 300kW liquid hydrogen fuel cell with a 100kg LH₂ storage tank and is paired with a FAW Jiefang heavy-duty truck. This marks the first independently developed 100kg-class onboard LH₂ system in China. After undergoing rigorous “sports car tests,” it has proven its ability to deliver outstanding performance.

Moreover, key features of the Track 1000 include a 100kg liquid hydrogen tank for extended range, advanced high-efficiency fuel cells for better energy conversion and zero emissions, with only water vapor as the byproduct. All this makes it ideal for heavy-duty trucks and freight transport, offering significant advantages over traditional electric trucks.

We know that electric trucks face several challenges like limited range and long charging times. Liquid hydrogen offers a solution with its lighter weight and faster refueling capabilities. This means hydrogen trucks can travel longer distances with less downtime and minimal environmental impact, providing a sustainable alternative to diesel-powered freight trucks.

Soon, this technology will also be a part of the Panzhihua Liquid Hydrogen Application Demonstration Zone, a pioneering initiative to test and deploy hydrogen-powered trucks in real-world logistics. This project aims to refine the system and expand hydrogen fueling infrastructure for mass adoption.

On top of that, China has already established national standards for liquid hydrogen refueling and vehicle integration. These technical standards ensure safety and support the future commercialization of hydrogen-powered vehicles. CASC and FAW Jiefang are already working on optimizing the Track 1000 system to make it more efficient as well.

As China pushes forward with its hydrogen-powered freight transport program, the Track 1000 is poised to reshape the logistics industry, providing a cleaner, more sustainable solution for long-distance trucking. With liquid hydrogen as the fuel of the future, China is leading the charge in creating a zero-emission transport ecosystem.
