New MGS5 EV SUV Unveiled, Estimated To Start From RM115,000

The B-segment MGS5 looks very good and is priced very competitively too

MG Malaysia has officially given us our first vehicle from the brand for 2025 and it is none other than the all-new MGS5, an all electric B-segment SUV with sophisticated styling, a dashing interior, innovative safety features and a bold price, estimated at just RM115,000 to start with. Well, it looks like other EV SUVs here are in trouble.

Designed with versatility and accessibility in mind, the MGS5 EV boasts rapid charging capability, a spacious cabin, intelligent driver assistance features and standard rear-wheel drive (RWD) dynamics, all backed by a comprehensive suite of safety technologies. These features make the MGS5 EV an ideal choice for Malaysian drivers seeking value without compromise.

Moreover, Emory Qifeng, Managing Director of SAIC Motor Malaysia, said, “This is the first model we’re introducing as part of a new era for MG in Malaysia. It sets a new benchmark in this segment with exceptional driving dynamics and technology. Following its global debut in China last October, the MGS5 EV has been tailored specifically for the Malaysian market, marking a major milestone in our electric mobility journey.”

The MGS5 EV is engineered for an engaging driving experience, featuring rear-wheel drive and agile handling. Customers can choose between two battery options, either a 49kWh unit paired with a 125kW motor making 170PS and 250Nm torque with a range of up to 340km (WLTP), or a 62kWh battery offering up to 430km of range and 150kW DC fast charging.

On top of that, both variants of this MG EV SUV support 6.6kW AC charging, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality and come equipped with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12.8-inch central touchscreen with voice control, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and 7 airbags with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

For those who want an elevated experience, the 62kWh version includes premium touches like 18-inch alloy wheels, panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate, leather-fabric combination seats, heated leather steering wheel, power-adjustable driver’s seat, 6 premium speakers, rain-sensing wipers, rear reading lamps, and a 360-degree camera system.

Available in five stunning colours, namely Arctic White, Monument Silver, Camden Grey, Dynamic Red, and Elegant Latte, the MGS5 EV also features a refined dark-themed interior. With its estimated MSRP starting from RM115,000 (excluding registration and insurance), the MGS5 EV even undercuts some EVs with more local flavour so this is going to be interesting.
