Is the MG Cyberster the best value drop top sports can right now
We have already shared the history of the MG brand in our previous MG article and you can click here to get that information. We have also shared news of MG’s commitment in Malaysia in terms of network and after-sales which you can click here to read more.
Now we have the test drive review of MG’s drop stop electric sports car (yes it is an EV). This is the MG Cyberster and for Malaysia, it has NO rival in its segment. Yes, there is no other battery powered drop top sports car on sale in Malaysia.
But …. There are a number of petrol powered drop tops (Mazda MX5 and Porsche Boxster) that compete with this Cyberster and this is where MG has a large advantage ….. power delivery, technology and features.

This Cyberster features signature scissor doors as envisioned by Carl Gotham and his MG London design team as well as a fully-electric fabric hood which can be opened or closed in as little as 15 seconds at speeds up to 50km/h.
The all electric dual motor Cyberster is available at just RM320k and like all MG models is supported by a comprehensive 7-year, 80,000-mile warranty.
It comes with a 77kWh battery that enables impressive acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds, and offers a WLTP driving range of 446km.
Charging options include a 7kW AC fast charger that takes about 10.5 hours to go from 10 percent to full, and it supports rapid charging at 150kW DC stations, achieving 10 to 80 percent in approximately 38 minutes allowing drivers to explore the full potential of the Cyberster from refined, long-distance touring through to pure, performance-focused driving.
The MG Cyberster’s electrifying performance is combined with a luxurious and technologically advanced cabin boasting a sporty interior with leather sports seats, Alcantara inserts, and a Nappa leather-wrapped steering wheel.
The infotainment system includes a 7-inch central touchscreen, a 10.25-inch driver display, and two additional 7-inch screens, all supported by an 8-speaker Bose audio system for an immersive listening experience and it is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto ready.

On top of that, safety is prioritised with the MG Pilot Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), which includes features like Front Collision Warning (FCW), Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), and Blind Spot Detection (BSD), among others, ensuring a secure driving experience.
To maximise the pleasure and comfort of long distance, roof-down motoring, a specially-designed wind deflector positioned between the front seats reduces buffeting to a minimum. Plus you have 249 liters of boot space for weekend drives with your better half.
The Cyberster is equipped with Brembo brakes as well as three-mode regenerative braking to maximise energy efficiency and extend the driving range. It rides on 20-inch Jetstream design alloy wheels fitted with 245/40/20 tires in front and wider 275/35/20 tires in the rear.

Driving The Cyberster
This electric car is quick, very quick and surprisingly agile in the right hands. Yes, despite its weight, you can exploit its handling around corners and when you feel like ‘darting’ in and out of lanes on the highway.
Yes, you should not be doing this on public roads, but owners who have this much power available can only be stopped when there are blue flashing lights behind them. The handling is firm without being too jarring and the steering response is precise and allows for good ‘point’ and ‘go’ driving action. Top down this Cyberster is attention grabbing and even with the top up, it’s a great looking car. Turning heads and causes a stir where ever we drove it, this is an electric car made for daily driving and not just for the weekend.
