The JAC T9 is a very capable pickup truck but will it win the people’s vote?
The JAC T9 launched here in Malaysia not too long ago and did so in a big way launching two dynamic variants, namely a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version as well as a fully electric vehicle (EV) version giving customers here a good choice regardless of their preferences. Now the former variant is gunning for the pickup truck throne here in Malaysia so the question is, will it succeed?
The JAC T9 PHEV isn’t just another workhorse, no it combines a powerful 2.0L turbo-diesel engine with dual electric motors, making a respectable 290 kW of power and an impressive 670Nm of torque. This potent powertrain ensures that the T9 can tackle even the most challenging off-road terrain with ease.
Moreover, in the event that the EV battery runs out, the diesel engine ensures this pickup truck can keep going so it is as reliable as can be as well. However, performance isn’t everything and JAC Motors has prioritized luxury and technology when designing the T9. Insid, the T9 sports a host of advanced features, including an intuitive infotainment system and an ADAS suite too.
These include Lane Departure Warning and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, assuring confidence while on and off the road. The JAC T9 PHEV also comes with a 31.2kWh LFP battery, with the ability to DC fast charge in just over an hour, so you never have to worry about long charging times on your adventures and can always have most of your power on hand all the time.
On top of that, boasting more than raw power and undeniable luxury, the JAC T9 PHEV also features impressive towing capabilities, with a 3,500kg braked towing capacity. The inclusion of electronic diff locks ensures that this pickup is ready for tough off-road challenges, meaning you will always be riding in comfort whether you’re on or off the road, a rare trait for pickup trucks in general.
The JAC T9 PHEV is now already officially on sale here in Malaysia along with its EV counterpart, but Malaysia has no shortage of amazing pickup trucks, from Ford with the Raptor and Platinum to the trusty Toyota Hilux, so can the JAC T9 really set itself apart? I believe so, with its blend of power, luxury and advanced technology, I think the T9 is the best all-rounder.
However, what I think doesn’t really matter. JAC will have to prove that its T9 is truly the best pickup truck to go for if one wants a versatile and safe option so can the brand do this considering most of the other options here are already well established? Let’s see.
