Chery Malaysia was quick to extend assistance to victims of the Putra Heights fire.
Chery Malaysia has launched an emergency vehicle assistance program for families affected by the recent Putra Heights gas explosion incident in Selangor. The automotive company announced on April 2, 2025, that it will provide 50 vehicles to displaced residents, offering crucial transportation support during this challenging period.

Immediate Relief Through Temporary Transportation
The devastating incident, which occurred on April 1 in the Putra Heights residential area, has significantly disrupted local communities, with many families facing immediate transportation challenges. Chery’s initiative aims to help affected residents maintain essential daily routines including commuting to work, attending medical appointments, and fulfilling family responsibilities.

“Chery Corporate Malaysia has always been committed to safety, not just on the road but in our communities,” stated a company representative in their official release. This commitment is being realized through practical assistance that addresses one of the most pressing needs during recovery efforts – reliable transportation.

The vehicle loan program will be implemented in close coordination with key government officials, including the Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and Selangor State Exco for Investment, Trade and Mobility YB Ng Sze Han. This collaboration ensures that resources are efficiently distributed to those most in need.

Chery Malaysia’s fleet consists of the Omoda 5 (and its electric counterpart, the E5), the Tiggo 7 Pro, and the Tiggo 8 Pro. These will be made available to affected families for a designated period, providing sufficient time for residents to arrange permanent transportation solutions while they work to rebuild their lives.

This initiative highlights how corporations can effectively contribute to disaster relief efforts by leveraging their specific resources and expertise. Rather than offering generic assistance, Chery has identified a concrete need within the affected community and responded with targeted support.
The Putra Heights incident, which resulted in numerous injuries and property damage to at least 49 homes, has required a multi-faceted emergency response. Chery’s contribution complements other ongoing relief efforts in the area.
