BYD Seal Now Starting From RM148,800, China Price Wars Now Officially In Malaysia

While some worry car prices will go up, DSF called it right as BYD prices go down

Okay, not to toot our own horn but BEEEEEEEPPPPPPPPPP! Okay, I have that out of my system now. Anyways, with the recent tariffs imposed by U.S President, Donald Trump, many were afraid car prices would shoot up, but we at DSF thought the opposite. Now, we are being proven right again as BYD is offering massive discounts.

BYD Malaysia introduced a new variant of its popular electric vehicle (EV) the Seal, the Dynamic variant, offering a cheaper option for buyers not too long ago but now, it is available at a promotional price of RM148,800. This significant reduction from the previous price of RM163,800 makes it even more attractive and this should worry all other EV brands here.

Moreover, the BYD Seal Dynamic features a rear-wheel-drive configuration powered by a single electric motor making 150kW and 310Nm of torque. This setup allows for a century sprint time of 7.5 seconds and offers an excellent 460km of WLTP range. It also supports DC fast charging of up to 110kW so it is no slouch in any regard.

Now we have talked at length about the China price wars which has seen more and more EVs in China being sold at massive discounts, sometimes, even in succession. Now, as a result of the taxes, China has decided to escalate tensions with the U.S by inciting a trade war and they are doing this by offering incomprehensible discounts on its cars globally.

On top of that, the BYD Seal dynamic was already seen as good value for the original price, but now? This car is undercutting even the most recent offerings from China although there aren’t many other electric sedans from China right now, but who cares? Would YOU choose to buy an SUV that costs more when this rather large sedan is available at such low cost? Exactly!

So BYD knows exactly what it is doing and considering the majority of Chinese EV makers here in Malaysia all have ties to the Chinese government in some way, we can expect to see even more price cuts from all other Chinese brands very soon in response and the best part is, for the first time in a long time, the buyer is finally winning.

BYD Seal Dynamic variant launch

Yes despite rising living costs, stagnant wages and ballooning inflation being the norm for the past decade or so, the average Malaysian may finally be able to own a decent car at a fair price again since 1985. I may be exaggerating about the 1985 thing but hey, I’m happy we youngins finally get a win so let me have this.

Editor’s Note: Pricing is for 2024 BYD Seal Dynamic units only.
